Health Minister Dalton Resigns Amid Breast Cancer Battle

Health Minister Ashley Dalton has announced her resignation from ministerial duties due to advanced breast cancer. She informed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer of her decision, expressing gratitude for his confidence and highlighting the government's commitment to supporting individuals with long-term health conditions.

Dalton, who was elected MP for West Lancashire in 2023, will continue to serve her constituents while undergoing treatment. She stated that she needs to reduce her workload to adequately manage her condition and focus on her role as a constituency MP. Dalton revealed in January 2025 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting conveyed his regret at losing Dalton from the team but expressed pride in her decision and her significant impact as a minister. He acknowledged her outstanding service, especially in the face of adversity. Dalton, 53, wrote in The Times that her metastatic breast cancer is incurable, but her disease is currently stable.
