A young woman named Freya Hodge experienced a "horrible" way to learn about her cancer diagnosis after finding the results on a health app before her doctor could inform her. The 21-year-old, from Uckfield, East Sussex, had discovered a lump in her armpit and was awaiting an X-ray review. However, she saw the diagnosis, "tumour characteristic of a malignant bone tumour - osteosarcoma," on the NHS app in April 2024, causing immense shock and anxiety.
Freya was eventually diagnosed with Parosteal osteosarcoma in June 2024, a rare cancer, after further tests, including an additional X-ray, MRI, and a biopsy that unfortunately had to be redone. This delay and the nature of the diagnosis, especially given her family history of sarcomas, deeply affected her. She grappled with treatment decisions, including chemotherapy, and the emotional toll of hair loss and anxiety during her treatment which began in December 2024.
