The district Health department has alerted the public to remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution against infectious diseases, particularly as heavy rains have led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas. The primary concern is leptospirosis, a potentially fatal disease that can spread through contact with contaminated soil, mud, and stagnant water via open wounds. Individuals exposed to such conditions are advised to wear gumboots and gloves and take Doxycycline tablets as prescribed by health workers. Preventive medication for leptospirosis is accessible at all government health centres and hospitals. To combat waterborne illnesses like diarrhoea, jaundice, and typhoid, maintaining personal hygiene and consuming safe food and water are crucial. The department also recommends chlorinating well water and drinking only boiled and cooled water. Immediate medical attention is advised for fever, which could indicate leptospirosis, dengue, jaundice, or influenza. Furthermore, precautions against snakebites are also emphasized, with a directive to seek prompt medical treatment if bitten.
