Since November 2022, Haryana's Tele-MANAS helpline has responded to over 16,000 calls, showcasing increased public confidence in accessible mental healthcare. This free service, reachable via 14416 or 1-800-891-4416, now connects directly with Haryana's 112 Emergency Response System for immediate suicide intervention.
The initiative, part of the National Tele Mental Health Programme, handled 16,159 calls by May 10, 2026. A notable 60% of these calls occurred between May 2025 and April 2026, highlighting rising awareness and trust.
Rural and semi-urban areas account for the majority of calls, addressing concerns like examination stress, anxiety, grief, and suicidal thoughts. Around five percent of calls involved children and adolescents, underscoring a need for youth support.
The service is staffed by 20 trained counselors providing emotional support and crisis intervention. Haryana plans to expand awareness campaigns and outreach to ensure mental health support reaches all citizens, including those in remote villages.
