Since January 2026, Haryana's 24x7 mental health helpline has fielded 9,106 calls, indicating significant emotional distress among its youth and working-age residents. The state is enhancing its suicide-prevention strategies by focusing on early detection and timely intervention.
The Tele-MANAS helpline, operational since October 10, 2022, has received a total of 19,773 calls. A striking 92.4% of these were initiated by individuals seeking help themselves.
Analysis of caller demographics reveals that 82% fall within the 18 to 45 age bracket. Concerns about sadness and depression constitute over a third of calls. Additionally, exam, workplace, and relationship stress, alongside anxiety, substance use, and sleep disturbances, account for over 80% of reported issues.
Haryana is actively observing Suicide Prevention Month, aiming to foster open conversations about mental health. The District Mental Health Programme is now active in all districts, providing assessments, counseling, and referrals. Mental health outreach is also being integrated into 3,214 schools and 195 healthcare facilities across the state.
