The situation extends to paramedical staff, with over half of their sanctioned positions also unfilled. Newer medical colleges, including those in Jind, Mahendragarh, and Bhiwani, are experiencing the most acute gaps. For instance, Jind's medical college had 555 vacancies against 559 sanctioned doctor posts.
The state's public healthcare demand remains high, with district hospitals recording 95.71 lakh outpatient visits in 2025. Despite recruitment efforts, retention remains a significant challenge. Doctors cite factors like remuneration differences with the private sector and workload contributing to resignations. Earlier data from 2022-2023 also indicated substantial numbers of medical officers resigning or opting for voluntary retirement.
The shortfall impacts the capacity of these institutions to provide specialist care, train future doctors, and serve as referral centers. The issue highlights a gap between the establishment of infrastructure and the availability of actual manpower, affecting the delivery of essential services to the public.
