Hamilton's new HART hub, operated by Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre, will officially open its bed-based site on July 6 at 276 Aberdeen Ave. This facility is designed to support individuals on their path to healing and long-term stability. The hub will offer 14 residential treatment and recovery service beds, addressing the growing demand that continues to exceed available capacity. Additionally, through a partnership with Good Shepherd, the centre will provide eight shelter beds, offering a safe space for clients for up to six weeks. Since April 2025, the organization has been operationally offering services like mental health and addictions counselling, laundry, showers, and meal programs at its main facility. The HART hubs across Ontario were established after provincial legislation in 2024 banned supervised consumption sites near schools and daycares. Hamilton's only safe drug consumption site closed following this legislation, prompting concerns about public safety and increased overdoses in other Ontario communities where similar sites have shuttered. Local paramedics have responded to 574 opioid-related calls year-to-date in Hamilton, a significant increase from the same period in 2025.
