Gurugram's health department has issued a public health advisory due to a heatwave, with mercury levels rising consistently over the past four days. The season's highest temperature recorded was 40.6°C on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The advisory, following the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health framework, advises residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours and maintain hydration. Daily monitoring of heat stroke cases, OPD visits for heat-related symptoms, and emergency admissions will occur at district hospitals.
Dedicated wards of four to five beds are planned for major health facilities, and seven sites across the district will track heat-related illnesses. Hospitals have been directed to stock essential medical supplies like electrolytes and IV fluids, and explore ways to increase water and air cooler capacity.
Ambulances will be on standby for emergency transportation. The advisory also highlights that vulnerable groups, including infants, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions, are at higher risk. No heat-related cases have been reported in the district so far.
