Gurgaon Hospital Gets Critical Power Backup Upgrade
20 Aug
Summary
- New backup systems for ICU and HDU are planned.
- A separate generator for the mortuary is also proposed.
- The upgrades aim to prevent disruptions like a past 12-hour outage.

Gurgaon Civil Hospital is enhancing its power reliability with new backup systems for critical care units. The hospital will install two 40 KVA online UPS systems for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High-Dependency Unit (HDU), along with other medical equipment. This Rs 18.8 lakh project is expected to be completed within four months and will provide 30 minutes of backup power, protecting sensitive equipment from fluctuations and short circuits.
A separate Rs 7.5 lakh project will see the installation of a 40 KVA generator set for the government mortuary on Mehrauli Road. This ensures dedicated power backup for refrigeration and other essential services at the mortuary, where continuous operation is vital. Security lights will also be installed at Civil Hospital as part of this initiative, with a five-month completion timeline.
These upgrades are a direct response to disruptions caused by past power failures, including a 12-hour outage in April 2023 that halted OPD services and forced a switch to manual operations. While emergency and gynaecology wards had existing backup, the new systems will bolster protection for critically ill patients and essential facilities like the mortuary, thereby reducing the impact of electrical failures on patient care and hospital operations.
