On September 9th, an alarming incident occurred at the Moskut residential school in Dediapada, Narmada district, Gujarat. During morning prayers, eleven children at the Narmada Ashramshala began exhibiting unexplained shaking and unusual behaviors, causing immediate concern among staff and fellow students.
Following the episode, children were rushed to a local health facility and then to the Civil Hospital in Rajpipla. Videos of the event circulated on social media, fueling rumors of supernatural possession or food poisoning. However, district health authorities conducted thorough medical and psychological assessments.
These examinations found all affected children to be healthy, with no signs of poisoning or mental illness. District Health Officer Janak Madhak suggested the behavior might be a form of group imitation, where children mimic actions they have observed. He dismissed supernatural explanations, emphasizing the children's well-being.
The school has since appealed to parents and the community to avoid spreading unverified claims. The children have returned to their studies, with the incident now resolved as an apparent case of mass psychogenic illness.
