Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has issued a letter of apology to families whose children were harmed by surgeon Yaser Jabbar. A comprehensive report concerning Jabbar's treatment of hundreds of children over approximately five years is scheduled for release on January 29th. It is already acknowledged that several children endured severe harm while undergoing lower limb reconstruction under his care.
Jabbar, who is understood to reside abroad, no longer holds a medical license in the UK. The Metropolitan Police indicated they would review the upcoming report, though no criminal allegations have been formally received to date. GOSH's chief executive, Matthew Shaw, reiterated personal and sincere apologies to the affected families, acknowledging the inability to fully compensate for their experiences and the distress potentially exacerbated by the review process.
Shaw stated the January 29th report will outline the events that transpired during Jabbar's tenure and the subsequent improvements implemented by the hospital. A prior leaked report from the Royal College of Surgeons indicated that surgeries performed were "incorrect" and "unsuitable." Some affected children required corrective surgeries due to mistakes that resulted in chronic pain, deformities, and nerve damage.
