Summary
- Hospital receives £8m funding for a new Urgent Treatment Centre.
- New facility aims to ensure patients receive timely, appropriate care.
- The centre is slated to open in spring 2027.

Good Hope Hospital has received approval from Birmingham City Council to commence construction on a new building for its Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). The project is supported by over £8 million in funding awarded by NHS England last year.
Simon Jarvis of the hospital stated the new building will integrate the UTC with enhanced specialist emergency care. This integration aims to ensure patients are seen by the correct clinician in the most appropriate setting, optimizing their treatment pathway.
The facility, located in Sutton Coldfield, is anticipated to welcome patients by spring 2027. This development occurs amidst a review by NHS Birmingham and Solihull concerning the city's UTC and out-of-hours GP services.
Birmingham currently operates five UTCs across various locations. Under proposed review options, the North Birmingham UTC will permanently relocate and upgrade at Good Hope Hospital. This consolidation is expected to streamline patient journeys and elevate care quality.
Good Hope Hospital's emergency department will continue full operation during construction. Temporary traffic management and clear pedestrian signage will be implemented to ensure minimal disruption. The new UTC's national funding places it outside the direct scope of the local health service review.
