Social Welfare Minister K. Jegadeshwari inaugurated the 'Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam' at Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital. This new initiative aims to provide a one-gram gold ring to every baby born in the participating hospitals.
The scheme officially began on June 22, making all infants born since that date eligible for the gift. To date, a total of 2,676 newborns have received their gold rings, marking a significant start for the program.
Looking ahead, the 'Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam' will be rolled out across five block headquarters hospitals and 72 primary health centers. Infants born in these institutions will now receive the gold ring when they are discharged alongside their mothers, ensuring continued support for new families.
