GLP-1 Drugs: Reddit Reveals Hidden Side Effects
14 Apr
Summary
- New study analyzed over 400,000 Reddit posts on GLP-1 medications.
- Reported side effects include menstrual irregularities and temperature sensitivity.
- Researchers caution findings are hypothesis-generating, not conclusive.

A comprehensive analysis of over 400,000 Reddit posts has shed light on potential, lesser-known side effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as Ozempic and Mounjaro. Researchers utilized artificial intelligence to examine five years of user data, identifying symptoms not extensively covered in clinical trials. While nausea and constipation remain common, the study flagged menstrual irregularities in approximately 4% of users reporting side effects. Other reported issues included unusual temperature sensitivities, anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches, and dizziness.
Fatigue emerged as a frequently self-reported symptom, second only to gastrointestinal complaints. Experts suggest that some of these effects, like disorientation and fatigue, could be linked to dehydration or hypoglycemia. However, the study’s lead researcher stressed that these findings are hypothesis-generating and cannot definitively prove causality. The data, drawn from Reddit users, may not represent the broader patient population due to demographic differences and the nature of online self-reporting. Further rigorous research is needed to confirm these signals and establish definitive links between GLP-1 medications and these newly identified side effects.
