Summary
- A nine-year-old's skin became so flaky it required constant vacuuming.
- Parents suspect Topical Steroid Withdrawal after discontinuing cream.
- Family fundraises for specialized treatment in Thailand.

A nine-year-old girl, Cha'rai Hylton, has suffered extreme skin reactions after her parents decided to stop her steroid cream treatment. Her skin became so severely "flaky" that her parents, Natasha and Cloron, reported needing to vacuum it up five times a day and change her bed sheets constantly. They believe she is experiencing Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW), a condition that can occur after discontinuing topical corticosteroids.
Cha'rai was initially diagnosed with eczema at six months old. After a dermatologist referral at age five, she was prescribed a new steroid cream, which her mother felt was exacerbating her condition. Following the decision to cease the cream in May 2023, Cha'rai's skin broke out severely across her body.
Her condition deteriorated to the point where she lost significant hair, experienced insomnia, and her skin scaled and flaked extensively. Due to her symptoms, Cha'rai had to be pulled out of school. Despite hospital visits, including one where paramedics met them off a plane in August 2023, her parents felt dismissed, and the NHS reportedly does not medically diagnose TSW.
To seek specialized treatment, the family is fundraising £30,000 for a six-month stay in Thailand for Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) treatment. They have already raised £11,000 and are planning a two-month trip this month, hoping to extend their stay with further donations.
