In December 2016, a 12-year-old Aleema Ali suffered a devastating accident when highly flammable lice shampoo on her hair ignited as she walked past a lit kitchen hob. The flames rapidly spread, engulfing her and causing extensive burns over half of her body, resulting in the loss of seven fingers.
She was placed in a six-week coma and spent nine months in hospital. Upon waking, Aleema had to relearn fundamental life skills, including walking, talking, and eating. The accident left her with significant scarring, requiring extensive surgeries and a long period of recovery.
Nine years later, Aleema, now 21, is pursuing a new path. She is training to become a counsellor, inspired by her own traumatic experience. She shares her journey online to raise awareness and foster resilience, aiming to assist others who have faced similar challenges.
