The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) has officially inaugurated its upgraded Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD). This vital facility serves as the hospital's central hub for sterilizing and distributing medical and surgical instruments to all departments. The refurbishment is designed to elevate the quality and efficiency of sterilization procedures.
This enhancement is crucial for preventing hospital-acquired infections. The CSSD is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and dispatching reusable medical equipment. Any lapse in this process can put patients, especially those in surgery or intensive care, at increased risk.
Brig (Dr) Rakesh Kumar Gupta, director of GIMS, stated that the state-of-the-art CSSD is fundamental to infection prevention. The upgrade will refine sterilization standards, improve operational efficiency, and guarantee the timely supply of instruments to clinical units. The institute is committed to modernizing its infrastructure to achieve better patient outcomes and deliver safe, high-quality, affordable healthcare.
