Giant Skull Tumor Removed in Life-Saving Surgery

A patient from Saran district, Bihar, who suffered from an unusually large tumor causing disfigurement, has successfully undergone its complete removal. The growth had extended through the skull, leading to significant facial and ocular abnormalities and social isolation for the patient. Doctors at SGPGIMS meticulously planned and executed the procedure.

The surgical team, comprising specialists from neurosurgery, head and neck, and plastic surgery, first reduced the tumor's blood supply via neuro-intervention to mitigate bleeding risks. The complex operation took place on November 29, with the entire tumor being excised without complications.

Following the successful surgery, the patient made a full recovery and was discharged on December 9. Medical professionals emphasized the importance of not hiding bodily growths due to social stigma, as tumors can potentially be cancerous. The patient is now expected to lead a normal life.
