In a remarkable medical feat, a 71-year-old man in Lhasa, China, had a massive fat lump weighing 22lbs (nearly 10kg) surgically removed from his back. This enormous growth had been present for about 30 years, with rapid expansion occurring over the last two years, pressing against the man's muscles.
Measuring 56cm by 54cm by 28cm, the lump was comparable in size to an overhead cabin bag. Surgeons successfully extracted the tumor in a single piece, with the patient losing only 100ml of blood. The mass was composed primarily of mature fat cells. Doctors also performed flap reconstruction to repair the surgical site.
Following the operation, the patient's wound healed well, and a nine-month follow-up showed no signs of the tumor returning. However, he has been advised that the mass could potentially reappear or develop into a more aggressive form, necessitating long-term monitoring.
