18 Feb
Summary
- MR vaccination campaign targets students from Classes 1 to 5.
- Sessions conducted within school premises for wider access.
- Campaign aims to close immunity gaps and prevent serious complications.

A significant measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign began in Gautam Budh Nagar on February 16 and is scheduled to conclude on February 27. This targeted initiative focuses on vaccinating students from Classes 1 to 5 across all government and private educational institutions within the district.
Health officials have arranged for vaccination sessions to be conducted directly on school grounds. This strategy aims to enhance accessibility for both students and parents, ensuring a broader reach for the campaign. The drive is part of a larger state government effort to bolster immunity against measles and rubella, highly contagious viral illnesses.
Measles and rubella pose substantial health risks, including pneumonia, diarrhea, ear infections, and encephalitis. In severe instances, these diseases can be fatal. Rubella infection can also lead to complications like arthritis and congenital rubella syndrome in newborns if contracted by pregnant individuals.
The Chief Medical Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar, Dr. Narendra Kumar, emphasized that the campaign's primary goal is to eliminate immunity gaps. He stated that an additional dose of the MR vaccine, which is safe and free, will be administered to eligible children, ensuring no child is left unprotected. School authorities have been informed of their specific vaccination dates, and close coordination is maintained with education officials and school managements for seamless execution.
