Glass Shards Found in Fried Rice: Recall Expands
27 Mar
Summary
- 10 million more pounds of Trader Joe's fried rice recalled.
- Glass shards, 1-3 centimeters long, found in recalled product.
- Product distributed across 42 states, with four glass reports.

A significant food recall has been expanded, adding 10 million pounds of Trader Joe's vegetable fried rice to the affected products. This expansion is due to the potential presence of glass shards, ranging from 1 to 3 centimeters in length. The recalled items originate from Ajinomoto Foods North America, a supplier for popular grocery stores.
The Food and Drug Administration has classified this as a Class II recall, indicating potential health consequences that are medically reversible or unlikely to cause serious harm. The contaminated products were distributed throughout 42 states in the United States.
This expanded recall brings the total amount of recalled food to approximately 47 million pounds. Previous recalls under Ajinomoto, Ling Ling, and Tai Pei brands also included ramen and shu mai dishes. Carrots within these dishes have been identified as the source of the glass contamination.
While four consumers have reported finding glass in their meals, no injuries have been officially reported. The manufacturer and retailers are advising consumers to discard the product or return it for a full refund.
