Summary
- Free lung screening pilot scheme available for smokers and ex-smokers.
- Checks offered for individuals aged 55 to 74 in Dartford.
- Early diagnosis significantly increases treatment options.

A vital lung screening pilot scheme is now accessible to smokers and ex-smokers in Dartford, aged between 55 and 74. This initiative, aimed at saving lives through early cancer detection, is offering convenient checks. Dr. Jonathan Bryant emphasized that earlier diagnosis directly correlates with more available treatment options.
As of the end of July, screenings will be conducted at the new North Kent Community Diagnostic Centre in Dartford. Meanwhile, the free lung screening program is expanding its reach to Faversham, with checks available at the town council building. A mobile CT scanner has also been deployed in Whitstable.
The broader screening scheme, which commenced in November 2022, has already covered areas across the south Kent coast, including Folkestone, Dover, Deal, Sandwich, Romney Marsh, and Canterbury. To date, over 100 lung cancers have been identified in East Kent, with an encouraging 64% diagnosed at an early stage.
