Nightingales Medical Trust (NMT) will inaugurate Smriti Gram, an integrated dementia village, in Thirumagondanahalli, Doddaballapur taluk, Bengaluru Rural district, on November 6. This facility marks a significant step in dementia care by offering free residential services to 100 elders from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in its initial phase.
Smriti Gram is described as the nation's first of its kind to provide complimentary residential dementia care for marginalized elders. The village integrates specialized care, caregiver training, and research. NMT is actively seeking referrals from families, hospitals, NGOs, and government agencies for elders in need.
Admission is prioritized for individuals aged 55 and above with a confirmed dementia diagnosis, particularly those lacking caregiver support or facing neglect. Eligibility is subject to clinical assessment and NMT's admission process, emphasizing that financial constraints should not impede access to quality dementia care. The project seeks to develop a replicable, sustainable model for dementia care across India.
