30 Oct
Summary
- Thousands of ultra-thin condoms recalled in France due to risk of bursting.
- Defective condoms were imported from a Malaysian firm, with eight breakages reported.
- The manufacturing process is flawed, leading to inconsistent thickness and quality.

In France, a large-scale recall of thousands of ultra-thin condoms has been initiated following the discovery of a significant defect that puts them at risk of bursting. Investigations revealed that these contraceptives, imported from a Malaysian firm, have led to at least eight reported breakages. Consumer watchdogs have issued warnings, emphasizing that such products, manufactured using a faulty process, may still be available for purchase or in consumers' possession.
The identified manufacturing issue is described as likely to cause fluctuations in the thickness and quality of the latex film, resulting in defects that compromise EU safety levels. Consequently, the importation and marketing of condoms produced with this specific process have been banned for one year. Several brands, including My Lubie, Amor, and You Me, have been recalled.
This recent recall follows a similar incident in August when approximately 160,000 condoms from 30 different brands were recalled by French authorities for insufficient manufacturing processes. Both the anti-fraud and health agencies highlighted that numerous condom lines available online lacked proper EU conformity seals, posing serious risks of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies.
