Summary
- Part of a medical gown and gauze were found inside the patient's abdomen.
- Preliminary findings suggest excessive bleeding led to the patient's death.
- A police complaint has been filed alleging medical negligence.
A disturbing case of alleged medical negligence has emerged following the death of a 28-year-old woman, who was five months pregnant. A medical board, tasked with examining her death, discovered foreign objects, including a portion of a medical gown and a strip of gauze, within the patient's abdomen during an autopsy conducted on Monday evening.
Preliminary findings from the autopsy suggest that the patient succumbed to excessive bleeding. Doctors noted that timely intervention to control the bleeding could have potentially saved her life. The recovered foreign items have been secured as evidence and will be handed over to the police for further investigation.
The deceased, identified as Manju, was admitted to ESIC Hospital with abdominal pain and bleeding. Following a procedure to remove a dead fetus, bleeding continued, leading to an emergency surgical procedure. Her husband alleges that doctors attempted a blood transfusion when she became unresponsive before she was referred to another hospital, where she was declared dead.
Based on these circumstances, the husband has filed a police complaint, seeking accountability for medical negligence and ensuring no other family suffers a similar tragedy. An FIR is expected to be registered once the medical negligence board submits its report confirming negligence.
