- Numerous violations included unhygienic conditions and expired food storage.

A concentrated three-day food safety inspection drive targeting 60 five-star and three-star hotels, alongside major fast-food establishments, has concluded, with over 70 food samples dispatched for laboratory testing. Officials sealed a kitchen at Skyye Lounge in UB City following the discovery of 45 kg of fungus-covered rotten chicken and beef, 6 kg of vegetable cutlets, and 15 litres of used cooking oil.
Expired milk and curd, approximately 10 days past their shelf life, were also found and discarded. The comprehensive inspections, conducted from August 7 to August 10, identified widespread violations including non-compliant labelling, misbranding, improper storage of meat and poultry, unhygienic food handling, and inadequate segregation of food types.
Overall, the drive resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of food, including 640 kg of mutton, chicken, and fish, 276 kg of mould-affected vegetables, and 49 litres of used cooking oil. Several imported products were also found to have been repacked, and some items had shelf-life declarations exceeding the one-year limit.
State Health Minister U T Khader emphasized that the inspections were not targeted at luxury establishments but were a measure to maintain cleanliness and public health across all food service providers, from roadside eateries to five-star hotels. LaLiT Ashok Bengaluru, while cooperating with authorities, disputed some findings, stating that frozen products were fit for consumption and that expired milk had been identified for withdrawal.
