- Free dermatology camps will be held at fish markets.

Recognizing the occupational health risks faced by fishers, especially women vendors, the Arabian Sea Fisheries Management Coordination Committee (Sea=MC²) has launched a new initiative. This program focuses on understanding and addressing skin-related ailments prevalent in fishing communities at landing centers and fish markets.
Dr. Shivakumar Magada highlighted that continuous exposure to wet conditions, sunlight, and ice leads to various skin problems like bruises, infections, and sunburn. Women vendors are particularly at risk due to long hours in unhygienic environments and handling fish with bare hands, often avoiding protective gloves that they feel hinder their business.
To combat these issues, Sea=MC² will organize free dermatology camps at fishers' workplaces. These camps aim to provide medical consultations and basic treatment kits, including antifungal creams and sunscreens. Awareness campaigns and walkathons are also planned to educate fishers about preventive care and health insurance options, ensuring better health outcomes for the community.
