Fintepla Shows Safety in Epilepsy Study
30 Jun
Summary
- Study suggests Fintepla is generally safe for epilepsy patients.
- No new cardiac abnormalities found in 15 adult patients.
- Most adverse events were mild and manageable during treatment.

A retrospective study evaluating Fintepla (fenfluramine) in adults with Dravet syndrome or Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) has indicated a generally safe profile for the drug. The research, conducted at the Brno Epilepsy Centre in Czechia, involved 15 highly drug-resistant adult patients.
During the trial, which included regular cardiological monitoring, no new cardiac abnormalities were detected. Eight out of fifteen patients experienced treatment-emergent adverse events, such as gastrointestinal symptoms and fatigue, but these were deemed mild and manageable. This suggests Fintepla can be a viable option, especially for Dravet Syndrome, where treatment options are limited.
The study observed clinical benefits in 13 out of 15 patients at six months, with significant seizure freedom noted in Dravet Syndrome patients. These positive safety and efficacy findings could help address concerns and potentially move Fintepla higher in treatment guidelines.
