FDA Clarifies Sweet Shop Food Poisoning Investigation

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a clarification on Friday, addressing misconceptions stemming from media reports about the Guru Nanak Sweet & Dairy food poisoning case. The department explicitly denied allegations that victim statements were recorded in the presence of individuals connected to the sweet shop or under any form of influence.
Officials initiated an inquiry on the evening of June 11 after receiving information from Chandan Nagar police. Food safety officers visited the establishment and subsequently recorded statements from affected individuals admitted to various hospitals. The FDA emphasized that these statements were voluntary and recorded independently, without pressure or interference.
Action has already been taken against the establishment, with Guru Nanak Sweet & Dairy's license suspended on June 12. The manufacturing unit was directed to cease operations pending further investigation. The FDA stated that additional measures will be implemented upon receipt of food sample analysis reports and other collected evidence.
