Allergy Alert: Cakes Recalled for Undeclared Soy
16 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Undeclared soy in cakes poses life-threatening risk to allergic individuals.
- Four types of pound cakes from Ukrop's Homestyle Foods are affected.
- Recalled cakes were sold in 28 Kroger and Ukrop's stores in Virginia and West Virginia.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a critical recall impacting several varieties of pound cakes produced by Virginia-based Ukrop's Homestyle Foods, LLC. The reason for the recall is the presence of undeclared soy, a common allergen, which was found in a 'cake releasing agent' used during the manufacturing process. This ingredient was not listed on the product packaging, creating a significant health hazard for individuals with soy allergies.
The affected products include four specific types of 8-inch and 6-inch pound cakes with buttercream icing, distinguished by their decorations like pink or red roses and confetti. These cakes were sold with a best-by date of December 15, 2025. Consumers can identify the recalled items by their UPC numbers: 72252591452, 72252591456, 72252591820, and 72252591849.
