Leon Hamui, once a passionate marathon runner, experienced fainting spells nearly two decades ago, leading to a 2008 surgery for misplaced coronary arteries. He enjoyed fifteen years of normal life before a bulge in his main artery required open-heart surgery in November 2024. His family, including son Johnny, traveled to Cleveland for support.
Months later, Johnny Hamui, a healthy 36-year-old, was diagnosed with the rare cardiac angiosarcoma after experiencing dizziness and fainting. Following his father's recent surgery, Johnny also underwent complex open-heart surgery performed by the same surgeon, Dr. Eric Roselli, in December 2025.
Both father and son now bear matching scars from their procedures at the Cleveland Clinic. They have trained together, forming a running club called "Corazone de Leon." The upcoming Sydney Marathon in August 2026, originally planned for Leon's recovery, now represents a profound celebration of their shared survival and family strength.
