- Event supports City of Hope Cancer Center Chicago's research.
- Early detection leads to a 99% survival rate in five years.
Next week, the Pink for a Purpose: Beyond the Runway event will showcase breast cancer survivors and advocates walking the catwalk in support of City of Hope Cancer Center Chicago. This center is part of a national network dedicated to cancer screenings, diagnosis, treatment, research, and access to clinical trials.
City of Hope emphasizes the event's dual importance for those affected by cancer and those needing screenings. Angelina Fakhoury, vice president of patient care services, stated that the models' experiences highlight the significance of early detection. She noted that early detection and screening are crucial for cancer care outcomes, achieving a 99% survival rate within the first five years of a breast cancer diagnosis.
Designer Barbara Bates, an 18-year breast cancer survivor, will present her designs on the runway. Bates expressed that her clothing aims to boost confidence for patients undergoing treatment, as fashion can significantly impact self-perception during challenging times. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, making her participation particularly meaningful.
The Pink for a Purpose event was sold out, with a waitlist, and will be hosted by CBS News Chicago's Sabrina Franza at Sarabande Chicago. Donations and support for City of Hope Chicago are also accepted via their website.
