A family from Harlow, Essex, has established The Ruby Rose Foundation to offer bereavement counselling services. This initiative was born from their personal experience of facing an 18-month waiting list for NHS support following the tragic death of their six-year-old daughter, Ruby Trussler, from sepsis and complications related to appendix surgery in October 2024. The foundation, launched on what would have been Ruby's eighth birthday, aims to fill the gap in accessible grief support for those who cannot afford private options. It has already raised approximately £48,000, benefiting both its own operations and the UK Sepsis Trust.
Ruby Trussler's death, which occurred in October 2024 after initial appendix surgery complications, multi-organ failure, and sepsis, led her mother, Emma, to establish the charity. The foundation can currently fund up to four counselling sessions for local residents experiencing grief. Emma, along with her husband Dean and daughters Ellie and Izzy Falconer, are dedicated to the cause. Ellie, who is pursuing a career in nursing, has also been actively raising awareness about sepsis, even publishing a children's book. The charity plans to expand its reach beyond the local area in the future, providing vital support services.
