Family House: A Home Away From Home For Patients

Founded 42 years ago, Family House has established itself as the nation's largest healthcare hospitality organization, providing a nurturing environment for individuals undergoing medical treatment.

This nonprofit extends its services to patients and their caregivers, offering not just shelter but also meals and transportation to Pittsburgh hospitals. Last year alone, Family House supported 18,000 individuals from all 50 states and 19 countries.

The organization maintains 121 rooms, providing a much-needed respite from the hospital setting. Residents describe the facility as a "Godsend," especially those who would otherwise face long and expensive travel.

While not free, stays at Family House are deeply discounted, with rates varying by room size. Family assistance programs further help cover costs for those facing financial strain, acknowledging that many patients are out of work.

Family House also offers complimentary daily breakfast, communal spaces for meal preparation, and essential toiletries. The organization aims to create a welcoming atmosphere, making visitors feel like part of the family during their stay.
