31 Jan
Summary
- Family donated son's eyes and skin after his death.
- Donated tissues will help blind and burn victims.
- Hospital records 966 total organ and tissue donations.

In a display of remarkable altruism, the family of Rahul Manubhai Patel, a 30-year-old resident of Gandhidham, chose to donate his tissues following his death. Rahul had suffered a severe head injury on January 18, leading to his admission to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Despite a week of critical care, his condition did not improve.
While Rahul did not meet the technical criteria for major organ donation, his family, in coordination with the Angdan Charitable Trust, proceeded with tissue donation. His eyes and skin were donated, offering the potential to restore vision for the blind and provide life-saving grafts for burn victims.
This compassionate act has brought the total number of organ and tissue donations at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to 966. Medical Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi lauded the family's decision, emphasizing its powerful message of humanity and the value of every contribution, whether organ or tissue.
