Fake Doctors Caught Conducting Illegal Deliveries at Unregistered Hospitals
13 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Authorities raided 'Mamta Hospital and Maternity Centre' for unauthorized obstetric procedures
- Facility linked to two other hospitals involved in fraudulent birth and death records
- 15 FIRs registered since June 2025 against hospitals performing unregulated gynecological procedures

On November 11, 2025, authorities conducted a raid at the 'Mamta Hospital and Maternity Centre' in Punhana, two days after eight other hospitals in the area were booked for similar offenses. The sealed facility was found to be linked to two other nearby hospitals involved in fraudulent record-keeping of births and deaths, as well as carrying out unregistered obstetric procedures.
According to officials, the 32-year-old woman named Mamata was arrested at the scene. The hospital had no authorization to conduct deliveries, with the chief medical officer's team finding women trained as nurses performing the procedures. "The Mamta Hospital and Maternity Centre had no permission to do childbirth procedures," said Dr. Mandeep Tewatia, a member of the raiding team.
The crackdown is part of a broader effort to curb the rise of unregulated medical facilities in the region. Since June 2025, 15 FIRs have been registered against hospitals performing unregulated gynecological procedures, nearly half of them from Punhana. "Many times, patients come to us last minute with excessive bleeding after visiting such unprofessional centers," said Dr. Maan Singh, the CMO of Punhana sub-division.
The authorities have warned that such unregulated facilities often operate under doctors' names but are run by unqualified nurses and self-proclaimed practitioners. They have vowed to continue their crackdown on these illegal operations to protect the health and safety of the local population.
