Authorities in Pune have registered a case against an individual operating as a fake doctor, who used the title 'doctor' on social media and offered chiropractic courses without proper authorization. This action was taken on July 27 under the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961, following an investigation initiated by the Kondhwa police station.
The Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) search and action committee has been actively reviewing and addressing bogus medical practices. This committee has registered cases against 56 fake doctors in the city over the past decade, from 2013 to 2024. A recent meeting on Wednesday, July 29, chaired by municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, reviewed these actions.
Dr. Rajesh Dighe, assistant health officer for PMC, advised citizens to always verify doctors' educational qualifications and statutory registrations. He encouraged reporting any information about illegal practitioners to the municipal corporation. The PMC, in coordination with the police, is committed to continuing this drive against illegal medical practices.
