Pawel Bukowski, a 48-year-old forklift driver, died by suicide following a failed dental procedure in Turkey. Bukowski had traveled to a private clinic in January 2025 to have his teeth replaced due to periodontal disease.
Upon removal of his teeth, he was informed that temporary dentures would not be provided and he would have to wait six months for new implants. This news, coupled with the inability to eat properly and increased expenses, devastated Bukowski. His wife, Daria Bukowska, noted his emotional breakdown and rapid mental deterioration.
Bukowski was admitted to Norfolk and Norwich hospital on April 24, 2025, after experiencing strong suicidal ideation. Despite seeking help, psychiatric admission was deemed unnecessary. He was found dead at his home four days later, on April 28, 2025.
An inquest recorded his death as suicide and identified several lessons to be learned regarding the care provided. Bukowska criticized the system, stating that her husband was failed at crucial points and that a lack of support and refusal of medication for withdrawal symptoms contributed to his death.
