8 Oct
Summary
- One in four employees in Essex were referred to their GP after using a new health machine.
- Over 5,600 health checks were completed since the program's launch in March 2025.
- The machine checks for high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and mental wellbeing.
A pilot workplace health initiative in Essex has revealed significant health concerns, with roughly one in four participants referred to their General Practitioner (GP). The SISU Mobile Digital Health Checks Programme, launched in March 2025, offers self-service health assessments at businesses.
Firms in Basildon and Brentwood participated in the initial rollout, which has since seen over 5,600 health checks completed. This has resulted in 1,400 people being advised to consult their NHS doctor and more than 2,500 referrals to local support services. The digital health checks evaluate body mass index, blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol, diabetes indicators, and even mental wellbeing.
Essex County Council is now actively encouraging businesses throughout the county to adopt the scheme. London Stansted Airport, an early adopter, reported a testimonial where an employee's health check potentially saved her life. The program highlights the importance of proactive self-care and mutual support in the workplace.
