New Heart Drug Shows Promising Trial Results
29 Aug
Summary
- Cytokinetics' Myqorzo met primary endpoints in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy trial.
- Repatha showed mixed results in a postmarketing study for heart attack patients.
- Milvexian Phase III trial results offered some reassurance for BMS programs.

At the 2026 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress in Munich, significant cardiovascular data is being presented. Cytokinetics' Myqorzo (aficamten) has demonstrated success in its Phase III ACACIA-HCM study, meeting primary endpoints for patients with symptomatic, non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The cardiac myostatin inhibitor showed clinically meaningful improvements in patient well-being and exercise capacity, potentially paving the way for its approval in this indication.
Amgen's Repatha (evolocumab) yielded mixed outcomes in its Phase IV AMUNDSEN study. While 82% of patients on Repatha reached LDL cholesterol goals compared to 40% on standard care, this did not translate to a significant difference in all-cause death or cardiovascular hospitalizations. This suggests its lipid-lowering benefits may require more time to manifest clinically.
Bristol Myers Squibb shared detailed results from the terminated Phase III LIBREXIA-ACS study of milvexian. Although the rate of major cardiovascular events was similar between milvexian and placebo groups, the absence of increased bleeding events provides reassurance for ongoing trials in atrial fibrillation and secondary stroke prevention.
