A new super-speciality block at Ernakulam Medical College Hospital is scheduled for inauguration on March 3 by Health Minister Veena George. Industries Minister P. Rajeeve announced this development, highlighting its significance in addressing the hospital's previous limitations in neurosurgery and emergency treatment facilities.
The state-of-the-art block is a substantial investment, costing ₹286.66 crore and funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board. It is equipped with 16 operation theatres, 842 beds, a modern labour room, and the latest medical equipment.
With the commissioning of this new block, Ernakulam MCH will significantly expand its capabilities. It will house departments for neurosurgery, gynaecology, gastroenterology, cardiothoracic surgery, paediatric surgery, urology, and nephrology. The block also includes transplant services and dialysis units, along with critical care facilities. To support these enhanced services, 90 new posts have been created at the hospital.
