Ernakulam General Hospital (GH) has achieved exemplary strides in public health, with the Health Minister stating the goal is to rival and surpass private healthcare facilities. Several development projects were recently inaugurated at the hospital, including a tensile-roofed walkway connecting key blocks and a yard development project to combat waterlogging.
The Gastroenterology department was officially opened, featuring a new endoscopy theatre funded by CSR initiatives. The Minister also honored Dr. T. Paulose George for his free services. Furthermore, a year-long campaign named 'Tharatt' was announced to educate the public on breastfeeding importance and establish breast milk banks.
The hospital's capacity for complex procedures like heart and kidney transplants and its doctor-prescribed free food program were lauded as models. The government is exploring options to provide more space for the GH. Efforts are also underway to operationalize other medical facilities and address deficiencies at cancer research centers.
