District Collector Sumit Kumar has issued directives for stricter adherence to maternal healthcare responsibilities within the medical and health department. This action follows a review meeting prompted by two maternal deaths recorded in Chittoor district during January.
Dr. D.T. Sudharani, the District Medical and Health Officer, was tasked with submitting detailed case histories, timelines, and identifying any gaps in care. The Collector emphasized early identification of high-risk pregnancies, mandatory check-ups, nutritional support, and timely referrals for complicated cases.
Furthermore, field staff are instructed to increase surveillance on teenage pregnancies and curb child marriages. The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan will be conducted on the 9th of every month, offering comprehensive screening and counseling. Special attention will be given to women with comorbidities, ensuring they receive specialized care and are admitted preemptively for safe childbirth.
