New Cancer Drug Shows Major Promise in Trials
20 May
Summary
- New drug shows survival benefits for advanced endometrial cancer.
- Sacituzumab tirumotecan is an antibody-drug conjugate therapy.
- Trial included patients resistant to chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

A pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial has revealed that sacituzumab tirumotecan (sac-TMT) significantly improved survival outcomes for patients battling advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. This marks a crucial advancement as the trial is the first of its kind to demonstrate a statistically significant benefit over traditional chemotherapy for this patient group.
The investigational drug, an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), targets cancer cells more effectively while minimizing harm to healthy tissues. The TroFuse-005 trial enrolled 776 patients whose endometrial cancer had progressed despite prior platinum chemotherapy and immunotherapy. These patients showed a clinically meaningful improvement when treated with sac-TMT compared to physician's choice treatments.
Endometrial cancer is noted as one of the few cancers with increasing incidence and mortality rates globally. For patients whose disease becomes resistant to current standards of care like immunotherapy, new treatment options are urgently needed. Researchers are preparing to present detailed data from this study, which could establish sac-TMT as a vital new therapy for this challenging cancer.
