Raw Cheese Positive for E.coli: Linked to Past Outbreak?
17 Apr
Summary
- Raw cheese suspected in E.coli outbreak tested positive for bacteria.
- The detected E.coli strain matches a 2025 outbreak, not the current one.
- The positive cheese sample from this year was not distributed to consumers.

Raw cheese from Raw Farm, LLC, implicated in a multi-state E.coli outbreak, has now tested positive for the bacteria. The outbreak, investigated since March 15, 2026, has been linked to nine illnesses and three hospitalizations. Significantly, the E.coli O157:H7 strain found in one cheese sample from this year is related to a separate, ongoing outbreak from 2025, not the current one. Health officials noted that this particular contaminated batch was not distributed.
Despite initial denials from Raw Farm, the company eventually agreed to recall its cheddar cheeses on April 2, 2026, recalling them 'under protest.' This recall followed multiple warnings from health officials concerning illnesses and hospitalizations, including one patient who developed a severe kidney complication. Consumers in California, Texas, and Florida were primarily affected, with children under five being particularly vulnerable.
