Ebola Outbreak: European Experts Deploy Amid Vaccine Trials

Two European epidemiologists have been deployed to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to support the ongoing Ebola outbreak response. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) dispatched these experts to reinforce surveillance and overall outbreak management in the affected regions. This initiative builds upon previous support provided since May, including assessments at airport exit screenings.

The current Ebola outbreak has led to over 7,600 confirmed infections and more than 3,670 fatalities, with the Ituri province being the most affected. Concurrently, clinical trials for the Ervebo vaccine, the only licensed Ebola vaccine, have begun in Ituri. These trials will evaluate the vaccine's efficacy against the Bundibugyo virus strain responsible for the present outbreak.
