Ebola Spreads to Uganda: Europe Risk Low, UK Screens
26 Jun
Summary
- DRC imposes 21-day quarantine for international travelers.
- Uganda confirms 20 cases, many from DRC border crossings.
- UK implements enhanced travel screening for affected regions.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has instituted a stringent 21-day quarantine for individuals traveling abroad who have visited areas affected by the Ebola virus. These travelers will be monitored daily and are prohibited from leaving unless authorized by health authorities. Officials maintain that the risk of transmission to Europe remains low. In Uganda, 20 cases have been confirmed, with most linked to individuals crossing the border from the DRC.
Meanwhile, the UK has not detected any cases, but the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has introduced enhanced travel screening for passengers arriving from regions experiencing the outbreak. British citizens are also advised to consult travel health specialists before visiting Ebola-affected areas. Ebola is a rare, severe, and often fatal viral disease transmitted to humans from wild animals, with fruit bats suspected as natural hosts. The virus does not spread through the air, and individuals only become contagious once symptoms appear, typically within 2 to 21 days after exposure.
