His chronic pain originated from a dislocated pelvis, leading to three slipped discs, and was further complicated by a fractured shoulder after a fall during his recovery. A subsequent spine and neck procedure in 2023 offered little relief, making walking increasingly difficult for him. Holmes noted the societal difficulty in accommodating people with disabilities and shared a personal anecdote about cinema seating arrangements. Separately, his ex-wife Ruth Langsford spoke about her devastation following their 2024 separation after 27 years together.
