Urgent recall: Wraps may contain fatal E. coli
22 Aug
Summary
- Four wrap products recalled due to possible E. coli contamination.
- E. coli presence may lead to kidney failure and fatal outcomes.
- Consumers advised to dispose of affected wraps and seek refunds.

Summit Foods has initiated a precautionary recall of four of its wrap products because of the possible presence of E. coli. The bacteria, specifically Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), can lead to severe health issues, including kidney failure and potentially death. The affected items include Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap, and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap, with all use-by dates up to and including September 5, 2026.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has strongly advised consumers not to eat these wraps. STEC infections can cause severe bloody diarrhea and abdominal pain. In more serious cases, it can develop into haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a condition that leads to kidney failure and can be fatal. Individuals experiencing symptoms are advised to stay home from work or school for at least 48 hours after symptoms cease to prevent further spread.
Notices regarding the recall will be displayed in stores where these products were sold, including Iceland and Bestway Wholesale for the Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap. Consumers are instructed to dispose of the product and provide proof of purchase to sales@summitfoods.co.uk to receive a refund. While most E. coli strains are harmless and beneficial, STEC poses a significant health risk, particularly to young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
