31 Jul
Summary
- GreenWise frozen fruit products recalled due to E. coli.
- Outbreak linked to organic whole blueberries and mixed berries.
- Potential for kidney failure and fatal illness with E. coli O145:H28.

Publix has expanded its recall of GreenWise frozen fruit products, affecting all lots of organic whole blueberries and mixed berries. This action is a precautionary measure following an E. coli outbreak. The initial recall was prompted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reporting a cluster of E. coli illnesses to the CDC.
The recalled products were sold in multiple states including Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. Consumers are advised to discard or return any recalled berries to the place of purchase. E. coli O145:H28 can cause severe symptoms including bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, and can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a form of kidney failure that can be fatal.
